Julie Amero Update
A Public Defender has an update on the Julie Amero sentencing. Trial counsel has asked for a continuance to bring in more experienced assistance for sentencing. Such a move is a bit unusual and makes me wonder if there isn't something to an ineffective assistance claim having some teeth based on reports that the defense expert was excluded due to inadequate disclosure.
Nancy Willard has prepared an excellent datailed summary of the unfortunate chain of events that has led to the conviction here. She also discussed the use of "porn traps" and mouse traps," which are designed to trap innocent websurfers in internet porn hell. She is also critical of the defense for failing to adequately rebut the state's computer expert. While I myself am all too aware that every losing client immediately turns on his (her) lawyer, there does seem to be a genuine issue here.
